Vacation Like Beyoncé With These Popular Celebrity Destinations
Celebrity spotting is always thrilling, and who wouldn’t be a little excited to see Beyoncé in a bikini on a gorgeous beach? There are certain stretches of sand across the world that have long been associated with the rich and famous – think Pamela Anderson in Malibu or Brigitte Bardot in the heyday of the French Riviera.
There are plenty of chic, star-studded spots, some off the beaten track, where you can soak up the glam and people-watch on your own.
Here’s your definitive guide to the beaches where you’re most likely to spy on your favorite celebrities.
Broad Beach, Malibu
The first thing to know about this Malibu beach is that it is mega private. That’s why, when you drive west along the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, some of the best stretches of beach are almost hidden away by luxury properties.
But in California, while beachfront properties can cost several million dollars (just ask Chris Martin), the law requires that there be easements for public access. In other words, Barbra Streisand may have exclusive rights to this clifftop mansion over the Pacific, but down below the beach is yours too – as long as you can find it.
One of the largest clusters of houses inhabited by Hollywood types can be found along Broad Beach. There are other sandy spots in Malibu, but if you can find a parking spot near Broad Beach and touch the shore, you’ll be in the middle of Tinseltown’s A-listers.
Pampelonne Beach, St Tropez
Among the many shards of sand in the Mediterranean, few are as legendary as Pampelonne beach in St Tropez. Technically speaking, the five kilometer long beach is in Ramatuelle, but what does it matter: when we talk about the 60s, Brigitte Bardot and “that tan of Saint-Tropez”.
While the “San Trop ‘” area, as the French call it, has no shortage of chic beach clubs, don’t come to Pampelonne waiting for a seaside promenade or souvenir stalls. There is mostly only beach, dunes, a very blue sea – and a very good chance of spotting some really rich European glitter soaking up the sun.
Bora Bora, French Polynesia
Remember when Justin Bieber took his kit off in Bora Bora and the internet kind of blew up? It’s true that the Beebs was spotted on the deck of their own private overwater bungalow, but don’t be fooled by the fact that Bora Bora’s sparkling blue lagoon is easily among the most beautiful in the world.
Celebrities, mostly of the Hollywood variety, are just as likely to bask on the pearly white sands of the slender motus (reef islets formed of coral and broken sand) that surround the iconic lagoon as they are on the decks of their daring bungalows. .
If you dive in, you might even find Kim Kardashian’s earring, which she iconically lost in the waters of Bora Bora in 2011.
Anse de Grande Saline, Saint-Barth
Most of the celebrities who travel to the Caribbean frequent St. Barts. Don’t forget to visit from December to January, because that’s when the beaches on this lovely little French island really turn into the sandy beach version of a red carpet.
The most wonderful beach in these regions is the Anse de Grande Saline, with its powdery white sand of alabaster, its gentle waves and its translucent turquoise water. It is exceptionally beautiful, and a star in its own right.
Kalo Livadi, Mykonos
Lindsay Lohan’s Beach Club may be gone, but Kalo Livadi Beach in Mykonos still draws celebrities.
Other beaches on the island like Ornos and the coves of Agios Ioannis also have their star-studded sidekicks – like designer Marc Jacobs – so it’s perhaps more accurate to say that pop stars and other big names can be found enjoying the Mykonian sands in general, but also mainly between July and September.
The Hamptons, New York
The well-known summer misery in New York is what prompts the annual exodus to the Hamptons, the tony series of seaside villages on the South Fork of Long Island’s east.
All manner of east coast-oriented celebs, including a few bi-coastal celebrities like Robert Downey Jr, regularly take to the chic chunks of sand around Sagaponack, Amagansett in East Hampton, Bridgehampton, Sag Harbor and Montauk.
Beaches of the north coast, Zakynthos
Not all celebrities live for the gram and in fact some shy away from it – but that doesn’t mean they don’t hit the beach in their own stealthy style.
Zakynthos is one of the most beautiful Greek islands and is known to attract an understated suite of stars. Kylie Minogue is a fan of the luxurious Porto Zante resort, located in an area where alluring and largely uncrowded beaches invite.
The beaches of Tayelet, Tel Aviv
You might not associate Tel Aviv with Beyoncé’s standard celebrity sightings, but any time stars and billionaires head to Israel for a short vacation or concerts, there’s a good chance they’ll drop by. minus some of their time here.
Some of the more chic hotels line the Tayelet, or seaside promenade, facing a 14 km ribbon of sand. When Madonna arrived for a concert, she took up an entire floor of the Dan Tel Aviv Hotel, and there were sightings of Madge on the busy beach in front of the hotel.
