Queen faced ‘appalling episode’ following attempted kidnapping of Princess Anne | Royal | News
Discussing security concerns for the Royal Family following entry into Windsor Park by an intruder allegedly armed with a crossbow, commentator Richard Fitzwilliams recalled a number of incidents. These include Ian Ball’s attempted kidnapping of the Princess Royal from the mall which left four with gunshot wounds, which he said shook the Queen deep inside.
He said how “lessons are to be learned” from “the particularly gruesome episode” which saw Ball use a white Ford Escort to stop Princess Anne’s car at the mall outside Buckingham Palace as he ‘she was returning from a charity event on March 20, 1974.
During the scuffle, Ball opened fire on a number of individuals before telling Princess Anne he planned to take her hostage for a ransom of £ 2million.
Famous, the Princess Royal replied “not really likely! As police and members of the public wrestled with Ball to prevent the kidnapping.
Mr Fitzwilliams noted how the armed Ball attempt left Princess Anne’s personal police officer James Beaton, cop Michael Hills, driver Alex Callender and reporter Brian McConnell hospitalized with gunshot wounds.

He also noted the infamous 1982 security breach by Michael Fagan who managed to break into the Queen’s bedroom and sit on her bed while she slept.
Mr Fitzwilliams noted how “there are lessons to be learned from all of these episodes” to better protect the Royal Family, including the alleged Christmas Day incident at Windsor Castle. Jaswant Singh Chail, 19, is suspected of entering Windsor Park with a crossbow.
It is claimed that, in a chilling pre-recorded Snapchat video sent to friends minutes before he was arrested, Chail allegedly revealed that he was ready to ‘murder Elizabeth’.
In the reported video, which shows someone wielding a crossbow, he allegedly said, “I’m sorry. I am sorry for what I have done and what I am going to do. I will attempt to assassinate Elizabeth, Queen of the Royal Family.

He added, “If you have received this, then my death is at hand. Please share this with anyone and, if possible, spread it in the news if they are interested. “
Armed police rushed at the intruder at 8:30 a.m. after setting off an alarm system and were spotted on CCTV near the Cambridge Gate entrance to Windsor Castle.
He allegedly used a rope ladder to scale the fence, but was reportedly recovered 500 meters from where the Queen reportedly had breakfast at her private residence on Christmas morning.
Chail was severed under the Mental Health Act. The Metropolitan Police are investigating the incident.
