The Met Office has released its weather forecast for next week, which forecasts the onset of rain in Leeds from today.
Long-term forecasts suggest this year’s New Years Eve could be gloomy, with heavy downpours persisting heading into the UK from Thursday.
The temperature is expected to remain mild throughout the week and into January.

Areas of low cloud will likely be slow to clear up, but a few brighter periods are possible. Mostly dry but maybe a light shower. A little less cold. Maximum temperature 7 ° C.
Outlook from Tuesday to Thursday:
Tuesday, mostly cloudy with a few rain or showers. Drier start Wednesday, then an episode of heavy rain, becoming windy but milder. Thursday, windy but mild, more showers likely.

To start the period, the rain will move east across the UK. Potentially heavy and persistent rain in places, particularly over the western hills. Perhaps drier and brighter in the far north. Temperatures mostly mild, with the possibility of a few coastal gales affecting the west.
Unstable conditions are expected to continue for the most part, but the possibility of drier and brighter periods in the southeast at times. As January approaches, Atlantic weather systems are expected to shift from the west, bringing further unstable conditions and potentially heavy rains for some.
Between these systems, drier and brighter periods are likely, but there is always a risk of downpours. Unstable weather to continue finishing the period, with showers or longer rain episodes likely.
