Here are all the ways the royals have paid tribute to HRH Queen Elizabeth with their baby name choices
There are a lot of family pressures to come with being the offspring of a member of the royal family, but choosing your baby’s name is easy when you have a queen in your clan to pay homage to.
HRH Queen Elizabeth has four children, eight grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, and a number of them have been given her name, or an interpretation of it, as a tribute to the family matriarch.
There are a number of traditional names in the British Royal Family, which appear at regular intervals on the Windsor family tree.
These include Mary, Victoria, Louise and Alexandra for girls, and Albert, George, Charles and Edward for boys.
However, Queen Elizabeth is most often honored with a middle name by family members, as Princess Beatrice chose to do in her baby name announcement this week.
In a statement on Instagram, the husband of Princess Beatrice Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi announced their recent arrival will be named Sienna Elizabeth Mapelli Mozzi, continuing the family tradition of naming girls after the monarch.
It was actually the Queen herself who started the tradition, when she bestowed Elizabeth’s middle name on her only daughter, Princess Anne, in 1950.
Princess Beatrice Elizabeth Mary, along with two other granddaughters of HRH Queen Zara Anne Elizabeth Tindall and Lady Louise Alice Elizabeth Mary Mountbatten-Windsor also share the middle nickname.
This means that three of his four granddaughters bear this name.
Princess Anne’s daughter, Zara Tindall, gave birth to a baby girl in 2018, and named her Lena Elizabeth.
Princess Anne’s son Peter Phillips also honored Queen Elizabeth by naming her second daughter Isla Elizabeth as a gesture of family love towards her aunt.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William and Kate Middleton, also honored the Queen by naming their only daughter Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, in honor of William’s mother and grandmother.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have taken a stranger route to honor the Queen with a name dedication.
They named their daughter, Lilibet, who is known to be the royal family‘s personal nickname for the Queen.
They gave Lilibet the middle name Diana, to commemorate Harry’s late mother, Diana, Princess of Wales.
