China denounces G7 statement, urges group to stop slandering the country

The Chinese Embassy in London has declared itself strongly dissatisfied and resolutely opposed to references to Xinjiang, Hong Kong and Taiwan which distort the facts and expose the “sinister intentions of a few countries like the United States”.

The government of Taiwan welcomed the G7 statement, saying the island claimed by China will be a “force for good” and that it will continue to seek even greater international support.
White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said Sunday’s G7 statement was an important step forward for the group as leaders rallied around the need to “counter and compete” with China on challenges ranging from safeguarding democracy to the technological race.
The Chinese embassy said the G7 should do more to promote international cooperation instead of artificially creating confrontations and friction.
“We urge the United States and other G7 members to respect the facts, understand the situation, stop slandering China, stop interfering in China’s internal affairs, and stop harming the interests from China.”
The embassy also said that a work on the study of the origins of the COVIDThe -19 pandemic should not be politicized, after the G7 in the same statement demanded a full and thorough investigation into the origins of the coronavirus in China.
China-World Health Organization Joint Expert Group on Virus Has Independent Research and Following WHO procedures, the embassy added.
“Politicians in the United States and other countries ignore the facts and the science, openly question and deny the findings of the Joint Panel Report, and make unreasonable accusations against China.”
