Billie Eilish talks about her first meeting with the British Royal Family at the premiere of “No Time to Die”.
The 19-year-old performer, who wrote and sang the theme song for the latest James Bond film, attended the London premiere of “No Time To Die” with his brother and writing partner Finneas O’Connell in September. At the event, the siblings were introduced to Prince William, Kate Middleton, Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.
During a recent appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” Eilish admitted that she may have broken some royal rules.
When host Jimmy Kimmel asked her if she had been briefed on the protocol for meeting the royals before the premiere, the singer confirmed, “Oh yeah. There was a whole list of things I had to follow. “
But when asked if she had paid attention to these rules, Eilish said ‘no’ in response to the question, before explaining, ‘I tried to [follow royal protocol]. I had expected that, and they were so normal, like they didn’t make me say, ‘Oh, I’m scared, I can’t talk to them.’ “
“They were very complimentary and they had all of these questions for me and they were just very friendly and like, funny and kind. I don’t know, I can’t complain, it was amazing,” the singer added.
The Royal Family website states that there are “no mandatory codes of conduct when meeting the Queen or a member of the Royal Family”, but individuals can observe traditional forms of introduction such than the neck knot or the bow.
“No Time to Die” star Rami Malek also recently shared his experience with the royals at the premiere. The actor told Entertainment Tonight that he is treating Prince William, Duchess Kate, Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla “like I would to anyone else.”
“I’m sure a dose of normalcy is probably something very refreshing for them,” he explained.
Malek also revealed that Prince William and his wife “looked quite baffled” by the latest James Bond film during the screening of the film, where the actor was seated right behind the four royals.
Meanwhile, Eilish’s single “No Time to Die”, originally released in February 2020, recently went platinum in the UK. The track is also certified platinum in other countries, including Canada and Australia.
The official James Bond Twitter congratulated her on her achievement, posting a photo of Eilish and her brother posing alongside Daniel Craig and Malek.
“Kudos to @BillieEilish on her single #NoTimeToDie going platinum. Meet Daniel Craig, Rami Malek, Billie Eilish and @Finneas at the #NoTimeToDie screening event and platinum record presentation,” the Tweeter read.
