Battle lines drawn in the battle of succession of the Zulu royal family: Prince Buthelezi – SABC news
The traditional Prime Minister of the Zulu nation, Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, has said battle lines are being drawn within the royal family to determine who should succeed the late King Goodwill Zwelithini kaBhekuzulu.
Buthelezi was speaking to the media in KwaNongoma in northern KwaZulu-Natal.
He says members of the royal family who do not support King Misuzulu KaZwelithini wrote a letter to the prime minister, asking that the same security offered to the king be given to Prince Simakade Zulu.
“It seems the battle lines in this conflict have been drawn, as far as I’m concerned. We therefore felt that the nation should be informed so that it can judge for itself who is right and who is wrong in this conflict, ”said Prince Buthelezi.
Buthelezi announced King Misuzulu KaZweltihini as his successor in May, based on the last will of the regent, Queen Mantfombi Dlamini Zulu.
Earlier this month, it became apparent that other members of the royal family were nominating Prince Simakade for the throne.
Buthelezi says he is happy that the differences did not lead to conflict.
“The question is of such gravity that, if we had not reached this stage of constitutional development in our country, it is clear that there would be war now,” added Buthelezi.
